Joan & I joined St. Paul’s in 1996, not so long ago. At that time my background in architecture, building science and construction seemed to fit into the needs of the Cathedral … little did I know what I was getting into …. It’s been a great ride and I’m looking forward to continuing the journey.
It has provided a place to worship, a place to meet great people, like all of you, a place to keep the faith and a place to offer praise and thanksgiving. Joan & I always say how fortunate we have been, and this place provides a chance to give back, to God for all his blessings and to the community where we live.
The Cathedral building itself is only a material expression of the Church, the architecture and detailing is worth preserving. The bricks and mortar house the church, but the real Church is its people … you, me and our faith in Christ.
The Dreams & Visions campaign represents change, not only in the cosmetics of the Nave but in the direction of how we worship and how we relate to our community. I believe that these changes will allow the use of the Cathedral to grow, providing service to those in need, providing opportunity for diverse worship settings, give ready access to those that have mobility issues and … not last, provide flexibility and a revenue source to keep the Cathedral sustainable.
St. Paul’s, located in London’s downtown core, is working with the City to fill the role as the Creative Sector Hub providing a flexible space that will be able to accommodate a multitude of functions as well as our Sunday services.
The literature from Dreams & Visions gives more detail, I urge us all to adopt the vision and support this campaign.
